Job Purpose:
The Plastics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving plastic products and processes. This role requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, plastics materials, and manufacturing processes. The Plastics Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful development and production of high-quality plastic components or products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop plastic products and components, considering factors such as performance, functionality, and cost.
2. Conduct research and analysis to identify suitable plastics materials for specific applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
3. Collaborate with process engineers and manufacturing teams to optimize plastic manufacturing processes, including injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.
4. Perform testing and analysis of plastic materials and products to ensure quality, durability, and reliability.
5. Develop and implement quality control procedures to monitor and maintain the consistency and integrity of plastic products.
6. Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams, including suppliers and customers, regarding plastics engineering and manufacturing processes.
7. Collaborate with product designers and engineers to ensure plastic components are designed for manufacturability, functionality, and ease of assembly.
8. Stay updated with advancements in plastics technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions and improvements.
9. Prepare and maintain documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and reports related to plastic product development and manufacturing processes.
10. Comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
2. Proven experience in plastics engineering, including designing and developing plastic products.
3. Strong knowledge of plastics materials, their properties, and applications.
4. Proficiency in plastics manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
6. In-depth understanding of quality control procedures and testing methodologies for plastic materials and products.
7. Strong analytical and technical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze data.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
9. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant engineering tools.
11. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations pertaining to plastics engineering and manufacturing.
